The Golden Ticket: Keep Knocking

By: Brooke Keith

“Keep on asking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”

Matthew 7:7 ISV

In the quiet hush of a town that lacked nothing, a little boy lies awake squished down by too many family members in one tiny space… and weighed down by the wish to do something about it. It isn’t his family he wants to escape...

Oh, no.

Just the thought that they have little, they deserve more, and he has no idea how to give it to them.

The love of this little boy is one that began with hope for a better tomorrow…

The hope that tucked within the confinements of the one candy bar he could afford would be a golden ticket. The odds! They really weren’t in Charlie’s favor, after all.

That candy bar, however, represented a lot more than a child’s love for candy.

It represented a boy who knew what he wanted and a boy that had hope that it was never too late to begin again.

With only enough money for the one chocolate bar, Charlie unfolds a dream…

And while we all know the golden ticket is waiting on him in this ONE bar…

We also know that the other children with the same-looking ticket would accompany Charlie for a chance to share the factory where dreams come true, and happiness became sugar…

Even though the tickets looked the same. In the end… there was only ONE true ticket and many counterfeits.

Charlie was destined to find the ticket that changed his and his family’s lives because Charlie was already chosen when the story began.

God has a way of weeding out the things that seek to destroy or destiny and bringing us what we long for. It we are willing to keep going, keep trying, give our all – He is willing to meet us there.

We don’t have to do much.

Keep being kind.

Keep knocking at the door.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7 NKJV)

Keep looking for the promise.

Keep being obedient to His calling on our lives… even if it isn’t what we first thought.

As a child of God, you are not lucky.

No… lucky does not sum it up nearly enough, nearly so brilliantly, as majestically and adoptively as…

CHOSEN.

You are chosen.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9 NIV)

So, keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking.

Even if it doesn’t feel like much.

Everyone else may need a thousand candy bars to find the promise…

You only need the faith to pick up one.

Let that be enough. Let that be ENOUGH.
